INTRODUCTION

This cardigan design came from my love of using all yarn and not letting any go to waste. On top of that, pockets! Especially GIANT POCKETS that can be filled with knitting projects or snacks or whatever you want.

Then there is texture! Love designing a simple repeat using knits and purls, 1x1 rib, garter stitch, seed stitch, and stockinette. It’s a repeat that will keep you knitting one more row!

The color combinations to this design are truly endless. Plan out your colors, start and end where a yarn runs out, or when you want a change.

CONSTRUCTION: knitting starts with pockets then rest of front and then onto back panel ending with back hem.

SKILLS: knitting flat, knit and purl stitches, slip stitch edge, increases/decreases, picking up stitches for sleeves, knitting in the round.

NEEDLES:

Body: US 8 / 5.0 mm, or size needed to obtain gauge

NOTIONS: stitch markers, locking stitch markers, progress keepers, tapestry needle/latch hook/crochet hook for hiding ends, measuring tape, gauge ruler if needed

GAUGE: 19 sts & 32 rows per 4"/10 cm in stitch repeat, after steam or wet blocking.

SIZES: 1 (2, 3, 4) [5, 6, 7] {8, 9 10}

YARN: 2 strands of fingering weight held together or DK weight.

YARN USAGE: See SIZE table for approx. yarn usage per size.

*Adding/reducing length, mods, will change yarn usage.

Finding the right ease for you, a guideline:

  1. Measure around your chest at the fullest/widest point.

  2. Grab one of your favorite fitting tops. Measure the top flat, at about 1"/ 2.5 cm below the armhole. Multiply by 2 to get the top’s circumference.

  3. (Top Circumference – Full Chest = Ease) If negative number, that’s negative ease. If it is a positive number, that’s positive ease.

Sample photographed is Size 5 worn with 5”/12 cm of positive ease at chest.
