Not just going back to knitting - MAY 29, 2020 (Patreon Archive)
There’s always so much I personally want to keep doing, like I’m not doing enough. If I learned anything last year, it’s that anti-racism work is a marathon, not a sprint. Burn out is very real, especially from being so vocal and taking the time and energy to educate and to fight off white fragility and tone policing, and especially now during a pandemic.
So tonight, I’m taking the time to create this piece. The canvas is scrap machine knitting yarn I had in storage from my fashion industry days. I knit the canvas on my domestic Brother knitting machine. The lettering is duplicate stitching with leftover yarn from a hand knitting project. It’s not meant to be perfect. It’s meant to be messy. The letters will spell out “Asians 4 Black Lives”. As I am creating this, I’m thinking of more ways to show solidarity, to push change, and what realistically I can accomplish. This work can’t be done alone. We need to unite, join together, and beat white supremacy.
There are a lot of great resources out there of what you can do already. I’ll post them below.
Ask yourself what you can do. Then do it. Words matter then continue with actions because actions speak louder than words.
