Test Knitter of the Month - June

Each month I feature a test knitter from one (or more) of my designs!

My hope for a part of this blog is to feature the knitters who spend their time helping me execute a hand knitting pattern. Test knitting, especially garments, are a critical part of the design process and I wouldn’t be able to do it without their valuable feedback.

Test Knitter of the Month - June Feature: Abi

How do you identify? My name is Abi and my pronouns are she/her. I'm 27 and have spent my entire life in Kansas.

How many years have you been knitting? What’s your knitting origin story? I first picked up knitting in 2018. I started crocheting in 2017 as a way to give myself something to do while watching TV or just hanging out. My crocheting took off and I absolutely loved it so eventually I wanted to learn to knit. Thanks to YouTube videos and a bit of help from my aunt I finally figured it out. And I've been knitting ever since! My favorite things to knit are socks and sweaters.

Which pattern did you test knit? What size, if garment, and yarns did you use?

I've test knit 3 patterns for Tina.

  • The first was the Eleven Twelve sweater. I knit a size 42 in Cashsilk Sock and Sincere sock from Expression Fiber Arts.

  • Second was the Brush of Color Tank. I knit size 4 in Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima. My gauge ended up way off due to using 100% cotton and blocking but it still ended up great.

  • My latest test was the Odds and Ends Cardi. I knit size 3 and used mostly Beachy Breeze Fibers Marine Life mini set and Less Travelled Yarns mystery club skeins from 2019. This is a scrappy project so there's other yarns in there but those are the majority.

What is your favorite thing about test knitting or why do you test knit? I love test knitting for several reasons. One is early access to the pattern. But one of my favorite things is the community you build while test knitting. I met one of my best fiber friends because of the Eleven Twelve test knit. I also just love to be a part of the process of releasing new patterns and you get to work with great designers!

What other making superpowers do you have? I'm a crocheter as well since that's what I learned first. I can also sew but not having a machine makes it a bit of a rare occurrence.

Where can readers find your makes? My Instagram is Knottyginger and my ravelry acount is Deadginger311.
